Body Surgery
Tummy Tuck
As a consequence of weight loss or pregnancies, many patients suffer from excess skin and fat in the abdomen which is removed with a tummy tuck. Abdominoplasty Surgery greatly improves the profile and shape of the body, and is often performed in conjunction with liposuction to the hips (‘love handles’) in order to improve and reshape the waistline.
Abdominoplasty is performed under general anaesthesia and takes approximately 2 hours, during which time, if necessary, the abdominal muscles are pulled back together, tightening the abdominal wall. As a result, the abdomen will be much flatter, the waistline will be slimmer, and the skin tighter. The scars will be easily hidden as they are below the bikini line and inside the belly button.
For the first week, following surgery, you will need to rest but from the second week you will be able to start resuming your normal routine. Normal sports activities can be resumed after the forth week. After surgery, the patient will need to wear an elastic corset, for approximately 4 weeks, which helps reshape the skin and reduce swelling.
Liposuction
With liposuction the surgeon has the ability to reshape the body by removing excess fat in localised areas.
Liposuction can treat very small areas (knees, double chin) or larger ones (abdomen, back, hips, thighs and legs). Depending on the amount of fat removed and/or the extent of the treated area, the surgery can be performed under local, epidural or general anaesthesia.
The procedure can last between 20 minutes and 3 hours and the recovery will vary depending on the size of the area treated.
After the first week patients can gradually return to their normal every day routine. Patients can resume exercise after 2-4 weeks depending on the extent of the surgery and are asked to wear an elastic compression garment for 3-4 weeks. The quality of the result depends greatly on the elasticity of the patient´s skin prior to surgery. The fat removed will not come back in the operated area.
If you are in the process of losing weight it is best to reach your target weight before you go ahead with liposuction surgery so that the final result will be better.
It is recommended to stay out of the sun until all the bruising and most of the swelling is gone.
Thigh Lift
As we age, or as a consequence of weight loss, the skin on the inside of the thighs can lose elasticity and sag, creating unsightly folds. With Thigh Lift Surgery, the surgeon removes excess skin esta, tightening it. The scar is hidden Within the groin. Sometimes liposuction (if necessary) can Be Performed at the same time. The surgery is performed under a general anesthesia and lasts about 2 hours.
It is possible to have some swelling and bruising afterwards, but esta Greatly Improves Usually after 1 or 2 weeks. The patient needs to take things easy INITIALLY, but from the 3rd or 4th week it is possible to resume regular activities.
Gynaecomastia
Quite frequently men can have excess fat and/or glandular tissue in the upper chest – called Gynaecomastia. The problem usually affects both male breasts and the aim of the surgery is to achieve a flatter, firmer chest with, where necessary, smaller areolas (the pink area around the nipples).
he surgery is performed under general anaesthetic and according to the type of surgery needed by the individual patient, can involve liposuction, gland and/or skin removal.
To reduce swelling a compression garment needs to be worn for 4 weeks after surgery and a normal routine can be resumed a week after surgery. Pain is moderate to mild and is controlled with medication.
